Read the error message

Error 524 points toward permission. Error 279 or ID 17 points toward connection. A ban message, outdated-client message, or full-server message needs a different fix. Do not treat every failed Join button as the same problem.

A friend can be online in a server that has no open player slots. Wait for someone to leave, ask the friend to switch servers, or use Party to choose a new server together.

Check whether it is a private server

The owner may need to add your username, allow connections, send a fresh link, or renew the server. Your own private-server privacy setting can also block the invitation.

Check both users’ privacy and Party settings

A user can restrict who may add them to a Party or private server. Blocking either account also prevents normal invites and following. Confirm that both users are still friends or connections and that Party is not set to No one.

If the game opens normally from its page, the problem is likely the friend’s server, access list, or capacity. If the game does not open at all, check content access, device support, a game-specific ban, or a network problem.

Age group, parental controls, region, and the game’s content maturity can prevent one account from opening a game that another account can play. Communication permissions and game access are separate settings.

A creator can ban an account from a specific game without banning it from Roblox. Group-only, tester-only, paid-access, or temporarily closed games can also block entry even when the friend is already inside.
